EuroCham is looking for a suitable candidate to take up the role as General Manager.

General Manager

Position Description The General Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (the Chamber or EuroCham), including the management of the office. The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling a wide range of tasks, exceedingly well organized and flexible, and will enjoy the challenges of supporting a small office of diverse people and programs. The candidate should be able to professionally represent the Chamber to internal constituencies, the government and the broader Hong Kong business community. This individual must be able to function effectively with minimum supervision.


Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Chairperson with his/her daily EuroCham schedules and duties, to include managing his/her calendar and commitments (planning itineraries, developing agendas and meeting materials, reporting, etc).

• Frequent communication and coordination with the EuroCham Board and its members, as well as with the government where EuroCham is key stakeholder.

• Represent the Chamber to the HKSAR Government and the broader business community in Hong Kong.

• Provide general administrative support and complete general office/facilities management duties including assisting with various payroll and human resources functions; ensuring adequate financial management.

• Event management functions and management of the Chambers’ Business Councils.

• Management of small (and changing) team of interns.

Ideal Skills and Experience

• Solid management experience in an office setting for a non-profit organisation.

• Prior experience working in a start-up business environment or in a small, changing team (preferred).

• Excellent verbal and written communications, networking, and presentation skills (in English).

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

• A background in economics or public policy would be ideal.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines.


About the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong

Initiated in 1997, the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong is a non-governmental business interest group. The EuroCham is a ‘Chamber of Chambers’ with its membership comprising 16 European Chambers based in Hong Kong and one in Macau. The appointed representatives of these chambers make up the EuroCham board of directors.

The EuroCham’s key objectives are to:

• Provide a channel of communication within European chambers in Hong Kong and economical circles.

• Promote commercial, industrial, financial, scientific and other economic exchanges of all types between Hong Kong and the European Union.

• Identify the problems that European companies may encounter in their development within Hong Kong and their extended Mainland Chinese market.

• Host functions that allow members to discuss and network with Hong Kong and European officials.

The EuroCham’s Business Councils are designed, namely:

• to develop working groups on specific industry sectors, with representation from National Chambers of Commerce and private companies, with the aim of providing input for the formulation of EU bilateral policies and regulatory dialogue with relevant interlocutors in the Hong Kong and Macau governments.

• to develop research work and studies on EU-related business, trade and investment in Hong Kong and Macau.

The EuroCham Business Councils are the:

• European Automotive Council • Environment and Energy Business Council

• Financial Services Business Council

• Information Technology Business Counci

l • Intellectual Property Rights Business Council
