The Legal Profession

The legal profession is made up of two categories of lawyers: solicitors and barristers. Somewhat simplified, solicitors are client-facing attorneys, whereas barristers are lawyers who interact with the court.

The legal market is served by approximately 950 Hong Kong law firms and 80 foreign law firms that are registered to practice in Hong Kong. These firms employ well over 13,000 lawyers in total. Many of the leading law firms in the world maintain substantial practices in Hong Kong. The market is considered highly sophisticated and very competitive.
